Kathleen Redmond, MA, is a passionate advocate of healthy workplace communication. Kathleen has spent over 25 years working in a variety of positions including management, college professor and university lecturer. For the past fourteen years she has travelled North America working in the heart of industry; speaking, training, and coaching in the domain of communication skills.

Her book Rules of Engagement for Communicating at Work, puts inside-out leadership (character) at the heart of the matter. Her clients include Canadian Revenue Agency, Ministry of Colleges and Universities, Labatt Breweries, Siemens Westinghouse, Cara Operations, Town of Aurora, Town of Parry Sound and Community Living.

Don Cousens

Don Cousens was first elected Mayor of Markham in 1993 and has served four successive terms. Elected to the York County Board of Education (now the York Region District School Board) in 1972, he served as Chair in 1978-79. From 1981 to 1993 he was Markham's Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) serving as Deputy Speaker, Minister of Corrections and Opposition Critic for Environment and Finance.

“The years have passed quickly,” said Mr. Cousens. “I look forward to continued involvement in our community and to working with my colleagues on many ongoing projects which develop in Markham and throughout our province and country."

Fred Faber

Fred’s work with the Centre for Character Leadership focuses on the education sector. He supports educational leaders to infuse character attributes into their organization, manage “bullying behaviour” using the most current research and practices and develop high performing teams.

Fred is a Senior Consultant of The Centre for Character Leadership. Following a successful career in two different school boards as classroom teacher, guidance counsellor, department head, vice-principal and then secondary school principal, Fred now has system-wide responsibility for coordinating the Bullying Prevention Planning work of a large urban school board.

Fred’s work in developing a broad based approach to this highly publicized area involves the re-culturing of an organization through needs assessments, training of staff at various organizational levels, development of resource materials, providing support for school administrators, coaching of staff in the development of their own local initiatives in this area and finally, evaluating program effectiveness against organizational priorities.

John Rogers

John brings a wealth of public and private sector experience to the Centre. John has been a lawyer in private practice from 1974 to 1999 where he was a partner in a seven lawyer Newmarket law firm. From 1999 onwards John has been involved in the Municipal sector with the Towns of Newmarket, East Gwillimbury and Aurora first as a lawyer and then as Chief Administrative Officer in East Gwillimbury and Aurora.

John has been active in his community including being elected to the Town of Georgina Council four times from 1978 to 1988, first as a Ward Councillor for two terms and then Mayor for two terms. John has also been President of the York Region Law Association, York Region District Health Council, York Region Abuse Program, Co-Chair of the Central LHIN Diversity and Inclusivity Advisory Group and most recently Chair of the United Way of York Region.
